An elderly Muslim man, who used to work as a coolie, has decided to serve migrant labourers arriving at the Charbagh Railway Station in Lucknow by carrying their luggage free of cost. Mujibullah comes every day to station and help migrants in carrying their belongings.
“I don’t take any money. They were offering it but I refused…Money will come when everything will become normal,” he said in a video that has gone viral.
“I have to answer to the Almighty also. What I am doing is nothing if compared to the problems faced by the poor migrant workers…they have no money…we must help them in whatever way we can.”

Mujibullah has been working as a coolie at the Charbagh Railway Station since 1970. He says even his father used to work a coolie since the time of British rule in India.
Even at his age, Mujibullah has been working 8-10 hours every day and can carry 50 kgs of weight. Calling it ‘khidmat’ (service), he says he helps migrant workers with their luggage free of cost. He says this is his duty and this duty is very ‘important’.
Migrants in India have been moving to their native places as they have lost their employment during the coronavirus pandemic. Several of them have been forced to walk on foot to reach their homes due to insufficiency of transport services.

Amid this crisis situation, several people like Mujibullah have come out to help migrants by providing them food, water and other essentials.
Actors Sonu Sood and Swara Bhaskar have arranged special buses for them to go home.
People have also extended their services to help the government fight the coronavirus. Recently, Muslims in the Ichalkaranji town of Maharashtra donated a 10-bedded ICU to a public hospital with the help of Zakat, traditional Islamic charity tax.
They were appreciated by state Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray for their contribution.
