Let’s imagine a world without Muslims, what would happen?
1) No largest religious denomination
The world would lose the largest religious denomination on earth, Sunni Islam, and 1.5 billion human beings.
2) No some of the greatest landmarks
The world would lose some of its greatest landmarks: no Taj Mahal, no Al-Hambra, no Ottoman architecture, no Dome of the Rock, no Grand Mosque in Makkah, no mosaics or majestic domes in central Asia.
3) No medicine and mathematical foundation
The world would lose algebra, experimental physics, surgical instruments as evolved over centuries, the Middle Age’s most important works of medicine, optics, astronomy, chemistry and physics.
4) No critical necessities to humans today
No coffee, toothbrushes or cameras. No calligraphy or intricate Islamic art. The world’s oldest universities would not exist. Hospitals as institutions would not exist.
5) No Renaissance
The Renaissance would not have happened and the ancient works of Greece and Rome would not have been translated or preserved.
6) No giants of various fields
No Saladin, Avicenna, Al-Ghazzali, Suleiman the Magnificent, Ibn Al-Haytham, Averroes, Al-Khwarizmi and so on.
7) No practice of pure monotheism of God
But infinitely more importantly than all that, the call to worship no-one but the sole God — alone, with no partner — would not have resonated around the earth as it does today.
The world would have lost that, and what a calamity that would have been.
So while genocidal tendencies against Muslims — memes or otherwise — are rising around the world, everyone should know that we are going no-where and we have a monotheism, civilisation and legacy to protect and revive.
