Most non-Muslims globally have never visited a mosque. Hosting open days allows communities to dispel misconceptions and share the authentic practices of Islam.
To this end, the Muslim Council of Hong Kong contacted the Kowloon Masjid’s Dawah Committee, which hosts an annual Mosque Open Day for the public.
Alhamdulillah, the Kowloon Masjid and Islamic Centre Open Day, organized by the Kowloon Masjid Dawah Committee (KMDC), was successfully held on August 23, 2026.
The objectives of the Open Day were twofold. Firstly, it aimed to enhance awareness of Islam.
Secondly, it sought to promote the upcoming “Understanding Islam” course.
Alhamdulillah, various exhibits were featured during the Masjid Open Day. In addition to displaying Islamic pull-up banners outlining key beliefs and principles, several interactive stations were available, including a hijab try-on, halal snacks, Islamic books and course registration, a Quran audio library, Arabic calligraphy, Kaaba VR experience and a balloon twisting station for children.
Furthermore, brief talks on Islam were conducted in Cantonese and English, introducing visitors to the concept of Tawheed. Volunteers served as tour guides.
By the grace of Allah, 3,520 visitors (non-Muslims adults only, not counting their children) attended the Open Day. The attendees found the experience enriching. The local Chinese community constituted the primary group of attendees, though individuals from various parts of the world, including visitors and expatriates, were also present.
Many expressed that they found Islam to be a peaceful religion, in contrast to its portrayal in the media.
Some even suggested organizing more Open Days and workshops, such as Arabic calligraphy.
Alhamdulillah, we had three shahadahs from the Chinese community.
The KMDC would like to extend its sincerest gratitude to the Board of Trustees and all the volunteers for their teamwork, cooperation, and dedication. Preparatory work began 1.5 months prior, focusing on planning, logistics, and resource management.
Special thanks go to the staff and students of Islamic Kasim Tuet Memorial College, who played a significant role in the success of this Open Day.
Also, special gratitude goes to Brother Jauhar and his team for providing exceptional support. Brother Jauhar’s constant support and readiness to help whenever needed was instrumental to Open Day’s success.
Brother Naveed’s liaison with the Supervisor and Board of Trustees has been equally instrumental in supporting coordination and progress. We are also deeply appreciative of Mufti Arshad, Mufti Shoaib, and Hafiz Naeem for providing students to set up tables and pull-up banners.
