9 Questions Interviewing The Bible and The Qur’ān

Christianity and Islam are two religions which are followed by more than half of the 7 billion population of the world. Here is an excerpt putting to test the religious books of the two faiths in order to ponder over their respective origins, authenticity and above all the message. Please note, this is not a way of belittling one or the other, but rather to encourage us to reflect over our beliefs after knowing the below facts.

Question 1: What is your real God-given name?

  • Bible : I don’t know.
  • Qur’ān: My name is Al-Qur’ān:

“By the Qur’ān, full of wisdom.”[1]

Question 2: Where did you come from?

  • Bible: From God and people.
  • Qur’ān: From Allāh (God Almighty) alone:

“The revelation of the Book is from Allāh , the Exalted in Might, the Wise.”[2]

Question 3: Did you (the Bible) inform your followers to go to Church on Sundays and you (the Qur’ān) informing your followers to go Mosques on Fridays?

  • Bible: No.
  • Qur’ān: Yes:

“O you who have believed, when [the adhan] is called for the prayer on the day of Jumu’ah [Friday], then proceed to the remembrance of Allāh and leave trade. That is better for you, if you only knew.”[3]

Question 4: Did you call your respective religions Christianity and Islam?

  • Bible: No.
  • Qur’ān: Yes:

“So whoever Allāh wants to guide – He expands his breast to [contain] Islam…”[4]

Question 5: Does the word “Trinity” exist in you?

  • Bible: No.
  • Qur’ān: Yes:

“…And do not say, “Trinity”; desist – it is better for you. Indeed, Allāh is but one God. Exalted is He above having a son. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. And sufficient is Allāh as Disposer of affairs.”[5]

Question 6: Why do you contradict yourself in many places if you are truly the word of God, The Almighty?

  • Bible: It is because I was altered by men to fit their own desires and interpretations, and no man is perfect.
  • Qur’ān: I have not a single contradiction in me!

“Then do they not reflect upon the Qur’ān? If it had been from [any] other than Allāh, they would have found within it much contradiction.”[6]

Question 7: How many versions do you have and why do you allow people to keep changing you?

  • Bible: I have many versions. It is because the people have made it permissible to change me:

“How can you say,’We are wise, and the law of the Lord is with us’? But behold, the lying pen of the scribes has made it into a lie.”[7]

  • Qur’ān: No one can change or corrupt me!

“Indeed, it is a noble Qur’an. In a Book well-guarded (with Allāh in the heaven i.e. Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz).”[8]

“Indeed, it is We (Allah) who sent down the Qur’an and indeed, We (Allāh) will be its guardian.”[9]

Question 8: How can you be so certain that your way is the ultimate truth?

  • Bible: I can’t be certain since mankind has changed me.
  • Qur’ān: 100% certain:

“Indeed, the religion in the sight of Allāh is Islam.” and “And whoever desires other than Islam as religion – never will it be accepted from him, and he, in the Hereafter, will be among the losers.”[10]

Question 9: Finally, what do you say about Jesus, who was he and what was his mission?

  • Bible:

“…Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs, which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know.”[11]

  • Qur’ān:

“[Jesus] said, “Indeed, I am the servant of Allah. He has given me the Scripture and made me a prophet.”[12]

So, Oh believers in the One Creator, the Creator of all including Jesus and the other Prophets (peace be upon all), let’s make sure we are following the way which has no doubt about it, no illogical beliefs about it and no other option besides it.
