A Muslim minibus driver saved the lives of his eight Christian passengers in Mandera, Kenya on 30 October when he refused to obey the orders of militant hijackers as reported by Barnabas Fund.
The driver, not named for security reasons, sped off after about 10 suspicious people waved him to stop on Wednesday evening on the Elwak-Borehole 11 road.
When he did not stop, the suspected Al-shabaab militants sprayed bullets on the matatu deflating a tyre.
No one was injured during the incident, Mandera County Commissioner Onesmus Kyatha said:
“A vehicle ferrying construction workers from Borehole 11 was last evening targeted by suspected Al-Shabaab militants but their driver saved them.”
He said the driver’s “brave” actions “saved the lives of his passengers”. He added,
“The driver is a local but most of the passengers were non-locals whom we believe were the target.”
The passengers reportedly lay on the floor as they heard the bullets hit the minibus. The police are investigating the incident. This is the true teaching of Islam as in the Quran, Allah said (5:32):
“And whoever saves one – it is as if he had saved mankind entirely.”
